October 27,1942 – January 28, 2026
With profound love and sorrow, we said a very difficult goodbye to an extraordinary man, a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, great grandfather and a steady, kind presence in the lives of so many. Danny passed away peacefully at Pinecrest, surrounded by the embrace of his beloved wife and family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lillian and Alfred, his brother Garry, and his sister Wanda. While they welcomed him home, those who remain are left with heavy hearts and a deep sense of loss. He will be missed by his sister June, numerous nieces and nephews, and by all who were blessed to know him.
Danny was born in Radville, Saskatchewan on October 27, 1942. It was there he met the woman who captured his heart, Denise, and they were married on May 16, 1964. Together they built a beautiful life and family, welcoming two daughters and later moving to Kenora, Ontario in 1970, where their son was born in 1973. Kenora became the heart of their family, a place of lifelong memories, with adventures camping at Gayle Lake, snowmobiling, and boating on Lake of the Woods.
He will be dearly missed by his children Deneen, Lynette (Kenny), and Daniel (Ronni), and by his five grandchildren Davin (Erin), Teale, Kade, Coleman, and Garrett. He was also the proud great grandfather to Mack, who brought him endless joy. The true love of Danny’s life was his wife, Denise. Married for 61 years, their partnership was a true example of devotion, strength and lifelong commitment.
From a young age, Danny showed a remarkable mechanical aptitude and a lifelong interest in vehicles. In his early adult years, he enjoyed stock car racing, earning many victories. He went on to a long career as a heavy-duty mechanic, including many years at Boise Cascade Paper Mill, where he became known as the man who could repair almost anything. Whether at work, at home, or helping friends and neighbors, Danny was always ready to lend a hand and turn a wrench. In retirement, he fulfilled a bucket list dream by owning a 1964 Ford Galaxy and could be seen in the summer months strolling through town with Denise and their dog. Danny and Denise shared many travels side by side, whether on trips to Mexico or on camping and road trips across Canada in their 5th wheel.
Danny enjoyed many sports, including baseball, football, curling and hockey. From a young age, he could often be found on a prairie pond, playing hockey with borrowed skates that were far too large and using magazines as makeshift shin pads. It was there that he developed his passion for the game, first as a player and later serving as a coach and president with the Kenora Minor Hockey League. In the stands supporting his grandchildren, Papa never missed a game, always cheering with pride. Later in life he spent many hours with Denise rooting for his favorite team, the Winnipeg Jets.
Danny was known for his kind heart, gentle nature, quick humor, long stories, and his famous quotes and nicknames that live on in family memories. His smile could light up a room, and he always saw the positive in every situation. His door and heart were always open, welcoming his children’s friends in times of need and countless rescue dogs. Danny always took time for friends, offering support to those who were sick, and drew comfort from his faith and the Catholic Church. Beyond his regular coffee outings, he treasured visits with close friends and reaching out to those in need.
Above all, time with his family brought him the greatest joy. Though our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for his life, his love, and the legacy he leaves behind. In his memory, we promise to “watch our step' “and to “do our best and leave the rest”.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Pinecrest Home for the Aged, Unit 2, as well as to Nurse Practitioner, Janaya Palsson, for their compassionate and devoted care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to “It’s a Dogs Life” which was a cause very near to Danny’s heart. Service to be held in the summer 2026.
