1963-2020
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of David Hensrud on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020 in Kenora Ontario at his residence. He is survived by his mother Meg and father Bill Cameron, sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and David Thiessen, brothers and sisters-inlaw Reid and Jenny Cameron, Ian and Jane Cameron, Margie Kirkjan Cameron, twelve nieces and nephews, his aunt, Sue Johnson, his fine friend Alessio Artozi and other family near and far. David was predeceased by his grandparents Archie and Muriel Scott, father Carl Hensrud, brother Scott Cameron and nephew Evhen Cameron.
David was born on May 17th, 1963 in Kenora Ontario. He attended public school in Keewatin and Kenora. He furthered his education with a year of bible school at Capenwray on Thetis Island BC, and then chef training at George Brown College in Toronto. David took additional courses over the years to enhance his skills as a chef, caterer and baker.
After finishing his education he returned to Kenora and ran his own bistro and catering company. Following that he moved west where he settled for a time in Vancouver and later, Gabriola Island. He loved his time there and created a network of friends, acquaintances and business contacts. David then returned home and became a fixture at the Kenora Farmer's Market and has baked and cooked for many people in Kenora and the surrounding area.
David's passions included food, friends, family, and of course Lake of the Woods. He was generous and kind, happiest when he could cook and bake for others. He loved the lake. Our grandparents' cottage held a special place in his heart. David had an incredible network of friends from all walks of life. He loved music and had a strong tenor voice. He was a member of numerous musical casts and choirs over the years. The choirs included the Fifth Avenue Singers, G Clef and Music Men, and also the numerous choirs in churches he attended when he lived in BC. He was a faithful member of the Knox United Church choir.
Knox was an important part of David's life, a place where he participated fully in many aspects of his faith and forged long lasting relationships. Dave loved delving into the history of his family and was a collector of old family photos, memorabilia and stories. Finally, and most importantly David loved to laugh and make others do the same.
Due to present circumstances we will celebrate David's life at a later date, hopefully close to Lake of the Woods with friends and family there to honour his memory.
Donations in David's memory gratefully received by Knox United Church 116- Fifth Avenue South, Kenora, ON. P9N 2A2 to the Knox Pantry Outreach. For donations to the Knox Pantry Outreach the cheques must be made out to Knox United Church and then the Pantry as a designation either on the memo line or in the back of the cheque.
