David was born on May 30th, 1992, in Kenora, Ontario. As a child, David loved reading books and was particularly fond of the Harry Potter series. He was insatiably curious, constantly asking questions and wanting to understand the world around him. He was infinitely kind and took a sincere interest in the people he met. When he asked you how you were, or what was happening in your life, you knew that he genuinely wanted to know. He found ways to connect with all kinds of people through his work and brightened everyone’s day with his jokes. His home was always open to those in need, and he went out of his way to offer help to others.
David loved life in Kenora and spending time at camp. In the summer, he liked to test out his waterskiing capabilities, find new and interesting ways to get the quad stuck, and enjoy nights outside around the fire. For David, friends and family were one and the same. He was an avid supporter of, and fiercely loyal to the people he cared about. He loved spending time with his family, and he could always be relied on for a good sing-a-long, game night, or family movie day. David loved being a Dad and it was simple things, like spending time at home with Caitlin and Rylan, that gave him the most pleasure. He was Rylan’s favourite cuddle-buddy, lego playmate, tickle-monster, pickle-eating partner, and one-handed-egg-cracker.
David had an incredibly big heart, an enormous capacity for forgiveness and a sense of humor that was larger than life. His laughter and jokes were contagious. He was well versed in hilarious movie quotes and light-hearted sarcasm, but his specialty was a perfectly-timed, quick-witted one-liner. He tried to never take himself too seriously and he could take a joke as good as he could give one.
Even after he became sick, David never lost his sense of humour or kindness. On days when he felt his worst, he still managed to make a joke or two, and even when it was an enormous struggle, he would still make time to check in with his friends and family. Throughout his health issues, David continued to express his gratitude for all those sending their love and offering their support, and we know he still is.
Our family would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the Nurses, Doctors and staff at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, as well as everyone who has shown so much love and support during this difficult time. Thank you.
As a result of Covid restrictions, a memorial service will take place at a later date.
