It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Delores Paishk (nee McDonald) at the age of 64 years at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on March 12, 2021.
Her greatest years were spent being devoted to the love of her life, her best friend and life partner John Paishk who will miss her for the rest of his life. Together their lives were dedicated to raising their children, grandchildren and most recently as great grandparents. Cherished mother of Patty, Dave (Pat), Mikey (Kirsten) and Brandi (Tony). Adored by her grandchildren; Shallan, Myles, Paige, Talia, Taylynn, Trent, Tatum and Brandon. Great grandchildren; Emerson, Kylen and Cedar. Her sisters Doris (Norman), Rose Kelly, Iris (Donnie), Jessie (Bobby) Yvonne, Florence, Paula, Laurie and Agnes. Her brother Billy and family, Lina, Joey and Catlin. Numerous nieces and nephews too many to mention that will miss her dearly.
Delores reunites with loved ones. Her children who she missed. Her sons Ricky and Matthew. Her daughter Georgina Lynn. Daughter in law Miranda Cameron. Her parents Eddie & Mary Ann. Her siblings John, Jack, Douglas, Jim, Ralph and her sisters Evelyn and Bella Mantini. Her nephews, Kevin, Rodney and Terry. Her niece Ruth Ann. Her grandsons Peyton and Mark.
In her earlier years, Delores grew up in Minaki, Ontario. She attended Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School in Kenora, Ontario. She also spent some years living in Toronto, Ontario with her sister and her family. She later came home to Wabaseemoong where she enjoyed living her life with her loved ones. Reclaiming the Ojibwe language was an important accomplishment to her and ensured that she instilled it in her children and to those who wished to learn.
She was known for her warm, kind, caring and loving heart that always made those around her feel loved. Her bright spirit and positive outlook on life was inspirational. Much to our delight, her great sense of humour added to one of her beautiful characteristics. She loved everyone and always made them feel at ease. Rest assured she would have people laughing at her witty remarks.
Delores had a love for nature. She loved outdoors and going for rides. She enjoyed fishing and picking medicines with her husband. Together they lived a traditional lifestyle and generously gave their time helping others. She was an avid reader who loved to sew and often crafted items for her own home decor. She loved that her home overlooked the beautiful Winnipeg River. She also enjoyed spending time visiting her cousins and was known to share a song or two singing karaoke.
Delores worked in Social Services for 25 years. She held the Director of Services position for WCWA and had the opportunity to lead a team of young aspired hard workers. She was their mentor and a true role model to her colleagues. They often looked up to her for guidance and held the utmost respect for her. Her previous employment also entailed working as an education administrator for a number of years. Prior to that, she also worked as a secretary to the Chief at the Band Office and as an administrator at the Greenhouse. She was a strong woman who showed such dedication and a powerful advocate for the community. The memory of her love and compassion will live on in the many lives that she touched.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the EMS paramedics, the nurses and doctors at both Kenora District Hospital and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their assistance in her time of need. Heartfelt thanks to everyone that came to spend time with the family. Also to everyone that assisted us with preparing her for her final journey. Although we will miss her immensely, we are deeply grateful for the time we had with her.
A wake service will be held at Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School on Wednesday March 17, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. A traditional ceremony will take place on Saturday March 20, 2021 with burial to follow at the Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will be conducted by an Elder friend of the family.
