Edna Gertrude Young was born February 17, 1914 to William and Alice Peterman in Kenora, Ontario. She was the youngest of 4 girls, born and raised on 2nd St. She was married on June 15, 1936 to a dapper Scotsman, Alfred Young. They had 2 sons Glen and Richard. Al and Edna lived above the family store & worked in it along with their boys who delivered groceries after school. Edna & family moved back to her birth home on 2nd St once her father fell ill. They resided there for the next 40yrs to raise their family. Once the house became too big for them, they resided in the Gardner house. Al and Edna loved to travel; many trips to Scotland to visit his family, bus tours, and a cruise. She travelled into her late 80's with her granddaughters.
Al and Edna were very involved with Knox United Church. She belonged to the UCW & the Legion, where she received the 75 year pin, plus belonged to the hospital auxiliary. Always on the go to a luncheon, bingo or craft show.
Her husband Al passed away in 1994, they had been married for 59 years. She moved to Pinecrest in 2008 and was well cared for by all of the wonderful staff there.
Special thanks to Sandy Moss and Pat Bernard for all their love and care of Edna these last few years. Thank you to ALL the Pinecrest staff for the wonderful care of Edna. She was a Grand old lady and will be missed by all!! Family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to Pinecrest Home, or Kenora Legion or any organization on her behalf.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Knox United Church with Rev. Cheryl Kinney officiating.
