Edward Zroback

October 27, 1942 - August 3, 2026

Eddie “The Butcher”, a special and cherished man known and loved by many in the community, left us on August 3, 2026. He peacefully passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital with his family and special people by his side.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn; children Kimberley (Larry), Michael, Colleen (Jason); his siblings Pauline (Larry), Julia (Andrew), Victor (Diane), Carl, Diane, Fred (Harriet), Don (Carol),

Shirley (Rick); grandchildren Mindy (Jason), Holly (Adam), Alicia (Justin), Samantha, Nicholas, Alexis (Patrick), Jenessa (Roman); great-grandchildren Aubrey, Ryder, Paisley, Ayden, Jackson, Zoey.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Paul and Anne, his brother Raymond, in-laws Len and Elsie Peterson.

For 55 years, Ed was married to his true love Marilyn, and their special love served as an anchor for the whole family. They were devoted, caring and selfless to each other. Family was important to him and his loved ones hold many beautiful memories of him. Food was an important part of family gatherings, with Ed and Marilyn working together to make sure everyone had a full plate and a smile.

Ed started his career at Shop Easy where he became manager of the meat department. He then spent the remainder years working at AlKays, and Consumer Frosted Foods. For 65 years Ed’s work as a meat cutter kept him busy and he continued making sausage until the very end. He was passionate about sharing his talent for creating delicious custom-made meat products with many people. The Wiener Shack was a popular gathering place for many to stop for a visit or order his popular apple & onion sausage or snack sticks. Every person who stepped in the door was welcomed and made to feel at home. Ed loved meeting new people and getting

to know them. He made many good and loyal friends over the years. He would often “need a favor” from his buddies and they always delivered.

Fishing was another one of Ed’s passions. For a brief time he was on a local tv program One Last Cast. He loved to share his knowledge and tips with others. If you told him you had been

out fishing, he would always ask “how deep and what was the hot colour?” He entered the KBI tournament in it’s early days and was proud to take 2nd, 6th and 7th place over the years. He was honored to be on Team Canada in the ‘92 & ‘93 tournament.

Now he can rest peacefully after battling a quick and aggressive leukemia, knowing that all will be taken care of at his home thanks to his wonderful neighbours, family and friends.

A gathering to honor and celebrate Ed will be held at the Ukrainian Hall - 509 4th St. N. on September 5, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00. We invite family and friends to join us in remembering and celebrating his life.
