Elizabeth Anne Nyberg

Betty was born in Dryden but lived most of her life in Kenora. Mom didn't talk much about her childhood, but she cherished the relationships she established with her siblings as an adult. She often talked about Dick, Marie, Aileen and Gaile, who have all predeceased her.

Mom married Merrill Nyberg in September of 1958. In 2018 after almost 60 years of marriage, dad passed away. She missed him greatly, but her faith in God assured her she would see him again. Mom and dad were long time members of Lakeside Baptist Church.

Betty enjoyed spending time with the Nyberg family. They were very close, dinner every Sunday close. She loved laughing with her sisters-in-law, Ella, Lil and Ollie. Sometimes laughing at dad's brothers, Del, Sheldon and Myron, but most often with them. Our mom had the greatest laugh.

Betty would probably say her best accomplishment was being mom to Cathy and David. We have so many great memories of growing up with mom and dad in our little house with the big back yard and garden in the north end of town. She loved and supported us through all of our successes and even more so when disappointments came. Her love knew no bounds. She may have worried at times, but she never let that hold us back. She always wanted the best for us. Most of all she was proud to have raised 2 good kids. We know she admired the adults she shaped us to be. All of our accomplishments are hers as well.

When we were a little older and she felt sure we could manage somewhat on our own she returned to part-time work. Mom worked several places over the years but her favourite job was at Sears. If the stories she told us were any indication, she certainly seemed to have fun there. She formed lifelong friendships with the Sears "girls" and the guys Mike and Blair too.

In 1991 she welcomed her son-in-law, Chris Zabloski to the family. They loved to tease one another, but she was always so appreciative of all he did to help and never failed to tell Cathy how lucky she was. In her opinion he was a good guy.

Betty was thrilled to become a grandmother. Our mom was not a traveller, but once her granddaughter Ashton was born, she made an exception and became a regular visitor to Thunder Bay. She was also there for us when Jacob was born. When Cathy and Chris moved to Winnipeg it was even easier to see and spoil the grand kids. She was more than thrilled to help out again when Jonah was born. Mom also took an immediate liking to Ashton's fiancé Hayden.

It didn't take long after her own grandchildren were born for her to become known as Grandma Betty to our branch of the Zabloski family. That nickname stuck and family gatherings won't be the same without her.

She's also survived by several nieces and nephews who surely have their own memories of Auntie Betty.

Mom happily welcomed David's partner Katherine and the dogs they shared. She always kept plenty of treats and toys on hand for her grand dogs.

We extend our thanks to Ontario Health at Home, especially Donna, who provided Betty with care and friendship over the past several years. We are so grateful for the love and laughter, help and support mom received from Kelly Carver and Sherri Zabloski. We owe so much to these three amazing women for helping keep mom at home almost until the end. Mom loved her home like no where else.

Cathy and David would like to thank the nurses at the hospital for caring for us and her mom in her final days. Thank you to Charlene for your support and guidance through the palliative process.

Mom, it hurts so much to say goodbye. We will always miss you, but we will be okay. You taught us how to be strong and how to take good care of each other.

Love you to the moon and back. Give dad a hug for us and don't forget to give him his wallet.
