Ella’s family meant everything to her. She met her future husband, Del Nyberg, in her late teens and they married in October 1960. They were a great team, and they did almost everything together through the years. They built their house, raised two daughters, and cared for 13 dogs and a cat during their almost 64 years. She was enormously proud of her four grandsons and would talk about their successes to anyone who would listen.
She was a long-time member of Lakeside Baptist Church and had a deep devotion to her Christian faith. She enjoyed the fellowship with the various ladies and seniors’ groups in the church community. Through her battle with cancer, she told everyone that she was not worried or scared because she knew her Saviour and would be going to heaven.
She enjoyed gardening with her husband and providing fresh vegetables and flower bouquets to friends and seniors in the community. She enjoyed reading, completing puzzles (although nothing over 500 pieces), playing games and puttering outside. She loved problem solving and tinkering and would not give up before a solution was found.
She will be missed by her family. She is survived by her daughters Nadine (Maiko) and Tobi (Richard) and her four grandsons Andrew (Shelby), Tyson (Brooklyn), Steven (Amy) and Joshua.
She is survived by her sister Darlene and her brothers-in-law Myron (Ollie) and Sheldon as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Del, siblings Art, John, Leonard, Erva and Blenda, brother-in-law Merrill and sisters-in-law Betty and Lil.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wiebe, Dr. Olson and Dr. Wehner at the Keewatin Medical Clinic for all their support and care, Mike Limerick for his visits and to all the homecare and hospital staff who demonstrated such compassion for our mom over the past few months.
If you wish to honour Ella, please consider a donation to the Lake of the Woods Hospital Foundation.
A celebration of life will take place at Lakeside Baptist Church on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
