Frida Viola Maunder
March 15, 1933 - August 14, 2012
Frida took her final bow on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Pinecrest Home, surrounded by music and with her daughter Irene at her side.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Irene; brother F. W. Clare Lagerquist and wife Ruth of Rivervale, NJ; niece Karen Lagerquist of Trenton, NJ; and goddaughters Carole Bedard and Maria Berezowski, as well as relatives in the U.S. and England.
Frida was predeceased by her husband John on January 2, 2012; parents Irene and Clarence Lagerquist.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, she received her education there. She began a career with Ontario Hydro. Frida met John on a Hydro charter to England in 1957 and they happily married in Richmond Hill, on January 11, 1958. They resided in Cameron Falls, Deep River, Thunder Bay and finally Kenora.
Frida made a joyful noise in St. Alban's Cathedral Choir. Her love of music and the dramatic arts from an early age also led her to participate in the Richmond Hill Curtain Club, The Lakehead Choral Group, Lakehead Amateur Musical Productions (with lead roles as Katisha in The Mikado and Fairy Queen in Iolanthe), Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music (Beaver Brae), The G Clef Choir, Island Voices, The New Horizons Senior Choir, Sunset Country Handbell Ringers and Quartet, Int'l Music Camp, The Lake of the Woods Concert Group, and the Winnipeg Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
Always keen to learn, other interests included: bobbin lace making, sewing, culinary pursuits, stained glass, and genealogy. Cats were a part of the family.
Together with John, they designed and built a cottage on Longbow Lake. Travels across Canada, the U.S., and England were enjoyed, along with wonderful memories of camping, canoeing, and summers at the lake.
Despite challenges and moving to Pinecrest in April, Frida remained positive and was a source of inspiration to those around her, with her sunny disposition.
Grateful thanks to The Very Reverend Jim Dugan, the caring staff at Pinecrest, Lake of the Woods District Hospital, ComCare, and especially Dr. Jim Beveridge and Dr. J. Spielman. Many thanks to family, friends and the Kenora community for your love and support.
Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alban's Cathedral, a service to celebrate Frida's life will be held, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial donations may be made to the following: St. Alban's Cathedral Accessibility Fund (312 Main Street South, Kenora, ON P9N 1T2); the John and Frida Maunder Endowment Fund for Music and the Performing Arts at the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation (Box 441, Kenora, ON P9N 3X4); or a charity of your choice.
