It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our only brother left, our beloved brother, Dad, uncle and papa Gilbert Francis Kelly (Kooshish) of the Lynx Clan. Born April 17, 1953, passed October 25, 2022.
He is predeceased by his parents Marion Black of Little Fork, Minnesota and Jim P. Kelly of Onigaming (Sabaskong) and his brothers, Douglas Kelly, Richard Kelly Cloud, Philip Kelly, and Tobasonaqwat Kinew, and sister’s Janet Kelly and Rosalyn Kelly, nephew Duane Copenace.
He is survived by his daughter Marion Kelly, granddaughters Daamin Kelly, Lyric McLeod. His step-daughter Rhianna Muckle, his favourite step grandson Curtis, Xavior and Atlas, step son in law Peter Paypom. He is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Desbiens, Mary Kelly, Linda Kelly, Frannie Miller.
He is survived by nieces Serena, Denise, Mallory, Cheryl and Lana, nephews James, Clayton, Brian, Andrew and Jordan, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Gilbert accomplished a lot in his 69 years, and overcame a lot of adversities, including residential school, alcoholism and abuse.
He worked at many jobs, helping out wherever he could, currently as an interpreter at the Kenora Courthouse.
He had an infectious smile and unique laugh, you could tell if he liked the joke or not. He had great wit. He was raised poor but rich in his culture and his spirit remained strong and his outlook bright and positive (most of the time).
