Gordon, aged 58, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 16th, 2019. Gord, or Farmer as most knew him, was born and raised in Kenora, Ontario on September 6th, 1961. Gord met the love of his life Sandra in 1980, eventually getting married in 1988. Two years later Gord and Sandra had their first child Shayne, and four years after that they had their daughter Katie.
Gord worked for the City of Kenora for 37 years until he retired at 55. Gord was passionate about sports and was always very involved. Gord coached his son Shayne’s baseball team from Shayne’s first swing of the bat until his final pitch in high school. Gord was an integral member of the curling community, eventually becoming president of the Kenora Curling Club for several years. Golf was always an important part of his life, he spent his weekends on the course with Shayne, Katie and many friends. After retiring, the Kenora Golf Course became his second home. Gord worked part time at the golf course and golfed as much as humanly possible with friends and also as part of the Liquid Tour. When Gord wasn’t on the golf course he was always with friends and family, either cooking up a homemade meal for everyone, out on the lake fishing, having a nice cold beer (or rum and coke), or hanging out at home with his best buddy Mika.
Gord was survived by his wife Sandra, son Shayne (Charlotte), and daughter Katie. His mom Alice, sister Laurie (Randy), and sister Lisa (Shaun, Eddy, and Corina). Gord was also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, close family friends and family dog Mika. Gord was predeceased by his sister Debra, dad Edgar, uncle Larry, aunt Verna, and brother in-law Raymond.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses who helped Gord along the way, including: Dr. Workman, Dr. Banerji, and the whole team at Winnipeg Health Science Centre.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday November 22nd, 2019 from 2-4pm at the Kenora Curling Club with an informal gathering at Log Cabin following. Let’s all have a drink in Gord’s honour!
