Ian Douglas Rioch
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ian Douglas Rioch on February 13th at 61 years of age. Ian will be forever missed by his loving wife Lynn, where as October would have been their 40th wedding anniversary.
Ian will be greatly missed by his children, Ryan (Kari), Lori-Ann (Brad), and Shannon (Graham); his cherished grandchildren, Karsyn, Jordan, and Liam; his mother-in-law Joyce Leydier, his sister Heather Rioch-Culleton (Eugene), his large extended family and his many friends.
Ian was predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Edna Rioch, his father-in-law Wilfred Leydier and his brother-in-law Kelvin Leydier.
Ian was born on April 17th, 1951 in Winnipeg, MB and moved to Kenora as a young boy. Ian loved his job as an Electrical Instrumentation Technician with the TransCanada Pipelines where he had worked full time for 40 years.
In 2007, Ian and Lynn fulfilled their life long dream of building a home on Lake of the Woods. Ian always enjoyed the great outdoors and wildlife and could often be found hunting, fishing and boating. If he was unable to be outside, Ian appreciated his view of the lake from his home.
Ian was known for his sincerity and generosity and would be there for anyone that needed a hand. Those who knew him would recall his hearty laugh, joking manner and loyalty to his family. Ian loved all family gatherings and exhibited a childlike love for Christmas. Although, Ian had a quiet demeaner, he could often be found outside socializing with his neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation in Ian’s name.
A celebration of Ian’s life will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Thursday February 21st at 2:00 pm.
