Sadly, on September 10th, 2025 with his family by his side we had to say goodbye to our Dad, Grandpa and great grandfather. The Lord had his arms open to take Dad home to reunite with mom. Judy passed away December 14th, 2021.
Dad was born in Rainy River on March 11, 1933. On May 17, 1956, he married the love of his life and neighbour Judy Gosnell. Shortly after they were married, Mom and Dad moved to Kenora where dad worked at the Paper Mill. Dad took great pride when he looked after the flowers and cut the grass at the garden. People often took their wedding pictures there and Dad was so proud. Dad was very much involved in the Salvation Army where he signed the Articles of War on December 24, 1961. Dad enjoyed going to his cabin on Off Lake with mom. They enjoyed fishing, playing 31 and going to McDonald’s for coffee. Dad had a great sense of humour, he was always cracking jokes and playing tricks on family and friends.
Jim leaves behind his children Ken (Colleen), Jerry (Linda), Wendy (Robert), Sandra (Ron) and his grandchildren; Jami, Darcy, Chantal (Ryan) and James; Tim (Stefanie), Danielle (Mark), and Phillip (Michelle); Donovan (Ami) and Jason; Kristi (Charlie) and Mitchell. He will be fondly remembered by many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and stepbrother Everett Cliver.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Mable Gosnell, his brothers Scott (Olga) and Roy (Phyllis), and sister Audrey, his in-laws David and Violet Van Tassel and Magnus Cliver, his brother-in-law David (Patsy), and his sisters-in-law; Eunice (George), Margaret (Colin) and Edna.
We would like to thank all the staff at Pinecrest for taking such great care of our Dad.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pinecrest Auxiliary. As per dad's wishes, there will not be a service.
When tomorrow starts without me.
When tomorrow starts without me please try understanding that angel came, called my name, and took my hand. The angel said my place was ready in heaven far above. And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love but when I walked through Heaven’s gate, I felt so at home. For God looked down, smiled at me and told me, Welcome home Jim. So when tomorrow starts without me, do not think we’re far part for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.
