Our beloved Joanne left for the Spirit World on October 17, 2026, at Thunder Bay Regional HCS with family by her side. You fought so hard to stay until the Creator couldn’t let you suffer anymore and came to save you. We were in deep sorrow to let you go but we understood that you were going to a beautiful place and to be happy and healthy with your family on the other side.
Sadly Joanne leaves behind her beautiful creation, her only son Royika Bunting and her cute grandson Neo Moose. Along with her siblings Lillian Carpenter, Howard (Jennie) Carpenter, Martin Carpenter, Mark (Cindy) Carpenter, and her baby sister Martha Carpenter.

Joanne was very protective of her son, she spent time teaching him the traditional values, especially our Ojibway language. Royika is very fluent in our language. Her son was her pride and joy; her bestest friend in the world.
Joanne also enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved visiting, doing home renovations with her mom. She would often do outdoor work, chopping wood and shoveling snow. She loved joking around with laughter with her family. Joanne went to Whitedog Day School and did various online courses. Coming from a very traditional family, Joanne was very fluent in Ojibway. She passed the language down to her son Royika. As a young girl Joanne spent time playing dress up with her cousins Ramona, Jennifer and Elaine. They grew up together as sisters, they often dressed up as Madonna and had many sleepovers. She spent hours on the phone with her sisters and brothers catching up. Joanne loved rides to town to go shopping with her grandma, mom and uncle Chiimis and continued her joyful rides with her friends Laura Fisher, Dora Cameron and her extended relative George Land. In her young adult life Joanne spent many moments creating memories with her best friends who she had a special bond with; Grace Fraser, Bonnie Mandamin, Colleen Paishk, and the late Cheapneat Mandamin. Those times she would have long visits, having meaningful conversations, creating trust and passing secrets, it was her fun moments. Joanne loved Christmas, she would buy gifts for her younger nieces and nephews; Jaymee, Barve and Prince Bunting, also to her best friends and children. She loved making them smile.
