Predeceased by his father Richard and his mother Malcolmina. He is survived by his four children Virginia, Jennifer (Thomas), Catherine (Mike) and Richard (Sally) as well as his former wife Carole. He also leaves behind his sisters Sandra (Robert) and Susanne (Dave); and his brother Jim (Ruth- (predeceased)). He is remembered by many other family and dear friends.
Born June 10, 1940 in Simcoe, Ontario, Dad grew up in Chatham spending his summers working on the farm of a family friend. He enrolled in the Canadian Army in 1957, attending both College militaire royal de Saint-Jean and the Royal Military College Kingston. He graduated in 1963 with a degree in Honours Mathematics and Physics. Dad served 35 years as an officer in the Royal Canadian Artillery. After a distinguished military career, Dad retired to Stormaway, the family cabin at Deacon Lake, Kenora, Ontario.
He enjoyed the simplicity and solitude in what he considered paradise, living free of the nuisances of modern life. Dad was a gentleman and a life-long scholar with a passion for understanding the world around him. He lived life on his terms yet never hesitated to lend a hand when needed. He was a soldier through and through but above all a dearly beloved father.
Our thanks to the OPP/ First Responders, staff of the Kenora Hospital and Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre for their care and attention. In keeping with our Dad’s wishes a private cremation has already taken place with no funeral service. We ask that in Dad’s honour a donation to his preferred charity, “Smile Train” would be greatly appreciated.
Dad you will always be forever in our hearts.
