Surrounded by family and friends at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Joseph Thomas Peart affectionately known as “Papa Joe” peacefully passed away on the afternoon of August 21st, 2026 at
the age of 88.
Joe is survived by his life partner of 30 years Donna Alders, his former wife and loving mother of his two children, Linda Pearson, his children Lana (Leon), Todd (Leanne) and stepdaughter Taylor (Jordan) as well as his grandchildren Quentin, Matthew and Ryan.
Joe is predeceased by his parents, Alex Peart and Francis Tanner.
Joe was born in British Columbia on February 27th, 1938. He moved to Thunder Bay as a young man where he lived for many years before finally settling in Kenora over 30 years ago. From a young age Joe became an Iron Worker, he traveled much of Canada and the United States working on different important projects throughout his career. He thoroughly enjoyed his job and always had a story to share with you about it whenever you stopped in at Nippers, his favourite place to hang out. He was always happy to chat and catch up with anyone he knew, often visiting neighbors in Keewatin for coffee when he had time, usually on Tuesdays. Any time spent with Joe would leave you laughing, smiling, and feeling as if you were always a part of his family. Joe was an incredible lover of animals, and he leaves behind his two deeply loved dogs Chico and Charlie as well as his newest family member and best friend Miss Emmy the cat. Joe’s family will fondly remember and truly miss his sense of humor, and adventurous life stories.
We will be holding a celebration of life for Joe on a later date, to be announced by Donna Alders. In honour of Joe, Donations can be made to It’s a Dog’s Life, or The Kenora Cat Shelter. Joe would have greatly appreciated any donations made in his honour to help animals in need.
"He walked the high iron with courage, and he built a foundation of love that will never crumble." - Taylor Alders
