Joe is survived by his brother Jerry (Ricki) and brother-in-law Lorne. Predeceased by his parents Anne and Alex; siblings and their spouses Mary (Vimy), Doris (Norm), Vicki (Joe), Lawrence (Pauline), Joyce. Joseph will be dearly missed by Jessie’s family in Scotland, his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Joe was born and raised on Park Street in Kenora. He would tell you that during the war years, when he was young, he was driving and delivering pop as they needed workers. The bonus was free pop.
Joe worked in southern Manitoba for a short time and then moved to Red Lake as the telephone man. In early 1954 Jessie arrived in Red Lake from Scotland via Toronto, and the rest is history. They married in 1955, had their family and moved to Kenora in 1964, where they resided for the rest of their lives.
Joe was a proud 50 plus year member of the Kenora Legion and enjoyed many good times there. In the late 1980’s he was a 10-year volunteer in the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association based out of the Kenora Airport. As a proud lifelong supporter of the Conservative Party, he helped in many elections.
Joe was a fisherman and hunter all his life and had many stories of the successes and the ones that got away.
In retirement Joe and Jessie enjoyed twenty-three winters in Mesa, Arizona, summers boating and fishing on Lake of the Woods and many trips to Scotland to see Jessie’s family. In 1997 they were thrilled to visit Ukraine and meet some of Joe’s relatives.
Thank you to all the PSW’s who cared for Joe over the last number of years. Thank you to the staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their assistance over the last two months. Thanks to Cory Jinkerson and the staff at Brown Funeral Home.
