It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Lenora Raymond.
Lenora died peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by her family. Born to Delphis and Anna Gaudry, "Lennie", (as she was known by all who loved her) grew up in St. Vital Manitoba where she attended Norberry School and Glenlawn Collegiate. Her first job was at St. Boniface Hospital, where she worked as a nurse's aid. In early 1944, Lennie's intrepid spirit took her to Thunder Bay Ont. to work at Canada Car and Foundry as a riveter, applying "skins" to Hawker Hurricane and Curtis Hell Diver airplanes for the war effort. When the war ended, Lennie returned home to St Vital and quickly landed a job at T Eaton company where she worked in the pharmacy department mixing tinctures, potions, and lotions.
In 1952, she met and fell in love with her sweetheart, Emile Raymond. They married and eventually had four children. In 1962 they bought a house in Grande Pointe Manitoba, where they raised their family. During this period, Lennie also obtained her certificate in Social Welfare from M.I.T. (now Red River College). In 1976 they moved to Kenora Ont. where Emile and Lennie purchased and ran Crest Resort. Lennie was also employed as a supervisor at a residence for intellectually challenged adults where she had many wonderful experiences and made many cherished friends. Her retirement in 1999 offered Lennie plenty of time to enjoy her family and friends. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and the Ladies of St. Anne. Lennie touched the souls of all she met with her deep faith, spirituality, humour, and her kindness.
Lennie is predeceased by Emile, her loving husband of 63 years. She will be sadly missed by her children Gloria (Steve,) Deborah(Ray, deceased ), Marc (Denise) and Gary and will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Shawn (Shannon) , Kristen, (Doug), Shelayne, and Amanda (Kurtis), her great grandchildren, Emerson , Brook, Greer, Reed, Emily and Oliver. She also leaves behind one sister Leona, from Kelona BC, and a brother René from Winnipeg Mb. She also leaves to mourn cousins Bea Raymond Beauchemin, Loraine Raymond, Rita Bodner and many nieces and nephews. We all believe our Lennie is in a better place; where she is without pain, worry and where she will sing show tunes and dance with her sweetheart.
Rest in Peace mom.
