‘Moose Clan’
It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Leslie Alexander Martin (Keewatin), a former resident of O’Baskaandagaang First Nation. A loving father, son, uncle and most excellent big brother and greatest friend.
Leslie had an immense love for music and was an amazingly talented musician, starting at a very young age, he mastered the ways of the guitar, earning him the nickname ‘feather fingers’. He would often say he was saving rock and roll one day at a time. Leslie played in the band Myrage at the age of 17 and in latter years entertained crowds with The Night Hawk Band, making a great deal of fans and friends along the way. Leslie also loved going to concerts.
Leslie’s days at home were spent doing what he loved which was fishing, hunting, caring for his pets Chan, Bruce and Pluto, visiting with friends and having get-togethers. Sharing his stories, he was a true entertainer. He also enjoyed song writing, tinkering with his guitars, walks and many other daily activities.
His kind, easy-going nature and quick-wittedness will forever be missed.
Leslie leaves to mourn his beloved children Konrad, Kristin, Jordan (daughter Val), Anthony, Kiera, Chloe and his baby Piper. His step-mother Linda, siblings Elias (his children Haiven, Trinity, EJ), Levi (his children Shania, Parker, Theron, Kiara), Amanda (Danny) (their children Tyrell, Ethan, Ronin, Shayne), Lori (Glen) (son Lennox), Audrey Lila (Jeremy) (their children Jocelyn, Korbin, Laella), Andrea (Imre) (their children Emilia, Isla, Harley, Shauna (Ainslee), Nikita and family, Kris and family. Numerous aunties, and cousins too many to mention. He also leaves behind many childhood friends whom he called brothers.
Leslie is now on his journey to be with his loving father Edward Martin, mother Esther Keewatin, grandparents Frances and Raymond Martin, Mae Petawanaqueb and Cecil Greene.
The family would to thank Vernon Copenace, Chief and Council, the W.O. N. Foundation as well as Treaty 3 Police, OPP and the EMS team for all their assistance and to any other members, friends and relatives who we may have missed.
Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Beardy, John McEvoy, Kurt Sabinkoff, Blair Whitefish, Adrian Indian, Luke Paypom, Glen Dunsford, Joe Corriveau, Raymond Kakepetum and Ed Dunsford.
Pallbearers will be Danny Skeid, Jeremy M. Skead, Imre Horvath, Sammy Skeid, James Eastman and Wes Debungie.
Wake Service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 beginning at 4:00 pm at Leslie Martin’s residence. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11:00 am with Elder Ron Mandamin officiating with interment to follow at O’Bashkaandagaang First Nation Cemetery.
