With family and friends by her side, Linda Beacham (Makade Ma’iingan, Mikinak Doodem) passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, at the age of 73 years.
She is survived by children Pete (Cheyenne), Paula and Karin (Victor) Broeders, and grandchildren Avery, Mya and Emilia. She is predeceased by her parents Charlotte Holm and Leonard Beacham.
Linda was born and raised in Kenora, completed her undergraduate degree at Lakehead and Western universities, and raised her children in Parkhill, ON. She was a primary and special education teacher for over 25 years with the London District Catholic School Board. She led children’s choirs, served as Religious Advisory Teacher, and as an Executive member of the Ontario Elementary Catholic Teacher’s Association.
Following her retirement, Linda returned to Kenora and served on the board of Women’s Place Kenora and on the executive committee with the Retired Teachers of Ontario. She also joined the women’s drum group, Maang Ganoondaagozid, which was a profound source of healing and friendship.
Linda was an avid reader, a lover of music, and a strong advocate for the rights of women and girls. She was known for her compassion, incisive political analysis and sharp sense of humour.
Linda will be buried at a private family service at Lake of the Woods Cemetery at a later date. In honour of Linda, donations to a charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to thank Kathleen Sobkowicz, Janet Elliott, Heidi Strutzenberger, Maria and Mariann Swain, Colette Surovy, Raquel Desrosiers, Jolene Hookimawillellene, Sallie Hunt, and Stephanie Landon for all the kindness and peace you brought to Mom’s final days.
