His great-grandchildren Wyatt, Wyshyla, Ashyah, Mackenzie, Leira, Ulyana, Rose, Ella & Lucas. Dad was the last of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his mother & father, Olga and Carl. His first wife May and his second wife Irene, his brother Karl (Bud), his sisters June (Del), Sandra and Sonja. He is survived by his sister in law Ethel and brother in law George and their family. In later years, Dad married Irene Malmo and along with her children Patricia and Colyn their children his family grew.
Dad was a jack-of-all-trades. He grew up on Lake of the Woods helping his parents with their commercial fishing camp on Fox Island. As an adult dad held various jobs. Carpentry, roofing and all-around handyman with his best friend Bud Crowe. His first long term job was going back to the lake as the Captain of his own freight boat, the Helen M. Dad loved that job and was a popular freighter because everyone knew how well he had known the waters, as well as how much he loved to socialize with all the lake residents.
Dad had to leave the job he loved so dearly upon becoming a widower and had 3 growing children to support. He began work as an upholster at Mastercraft Upholstery perfecting his craft under his boss Les Simmons. However, a 9 to 5 job was never Dad’s forte even though he never gave up sewing when he moved to his next job. Just ask the many people requesting new boat top covers.
His final and longest job was working for CP Rail as a conductor. Dad worked for CP Rail for 25 years until he retired. But he never gave up his love for the railroad as he became a volunteer at the Kenora Railroad Museum.
In Dad’s early years, he had belonged to a Barbershop Quartet with Dr. King, Mr. King and Mr. Spalton. After his retirement, he returned to his passion of singing. He joined the G-Clef choir, the St. Alban’s Choir, sang with “Other Mothers Sons” and joined the Bell Ringers just to name a few. He also loved to dance, ballroom, square and on the ice. He had excelled at all three.
Dad lived a long and fruitful life. He still lived in his own home, drove himself wherever he needed to go, and was very proud of his independence.
The family would like to send their sincere thanks to Dad’s neighbour Sandy for all the years of keeping an eye out for our dad. The family would like to thank the EMT’s, the Kenora O.P.P., and Brown Funeral Home for their caring and compassion to our family during this time.
In lieu of flowers the family request a donation be made to a charity of your choice.
