Margot emigrated from Germany in 1953, joining Hans in Red Lake and then settling in Minaki in 1961. Together they founded Black Bear Portage Camp on Rough Rock Lake where they enjoyed many happy years building their business and raising their family along with making life long friends.
“The Camp” continues to be a very special place for all the family with so many beautiful memories and looking forward to making many more.
Margot loved all the wonderful times spent with family and friends having a special bond with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
During the summer she enjoyed swimming, blueberry picking, kayaking, canoeing, mowing the grass, flower gardens, hummingbirds, playing scrabble and cribbage and watching sunsets.
During the winter she enjoyed skiing on the Minaki Nordic trails, curling in Minaki and Keewatin, long walks, chatting with whomever she met along the way, Rummoli with the ladies, shovelling snow, feeding and watching the winter birds, knitting, sewing, puzzles, cooking and baking.
Margot was also interested in writing, deciding that she would like to write a book about her life. Margot studied and took courses in writing and accomplished her goal by writing her memoir “Never A Dull Moment”. We are all so thankful for the beautiful story of her exceptional life.
Margot touched the lives of so many people with warmth, charm and grace. Please enjoy some time in the great outdoors in memory of Margot.
The family will host a reception in Minaki in the summer of 2023.
