Marie Antoinette 'Annette' Fobister

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Marie Anntoinette “Annette” Fobister.

Surrounded by the love of her family, Annette made her journey home on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Her passing leaves a deep sadness in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. While we grieve her loss, we are grateful for the beautiful life she shared with us and for the many memories, teachings, and moments of love she leaves behind.

Annette is predeceased by her parents, Marie and Joseph Ashen; her beloved son, “Juni” William Fobister Jr.; her granddaughters Betty and Lylah; her brother Adolphus; her sisters Yolanda (Rose), and Josephine Fobister; and many other loved ones whom she cherished deeply.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, William Fobister Sr. “Wiinskii,” and her children Wendy Ann, Bruce (April), Harrison (Nicole), Travis (Tammy), and daughter-in-law Lucy.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her siblings George, Gloria, and Angie; her grandchildren Sabrina, Devin, Kiinu (Chayna), Jimi, Elsie, Billy, Keira (Ramus), Waylon, Willow (Damon), Tabitha (Joey), Melissa, Jewel (Clyde), Jared, Lydia, Tristin, Jillian, Chloe (Ashton), Shayne, and Harrison Jr.

Her nieces Delores (Kurri), Rhiannah, Kathy Ann, Karen, Deborah, and Lois, and nephews Keith, Ian, and George, along with many other relatives, friends, and community members, will carry her memory in their hearts.

Annette was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. She loved deeply and always went above and beyond to care for the people she loved.

She found joy in spending time with family, cooking and baking, being out on the land, sharing stories, and passing on the teachings she received from the grandparents who raised her. She took pride in sharing those teachings with the younger generations, ensuring that the knowledge and values passed down to her would continue through her family.

Annette had a gentle spirit and a calm presence. She was thoughtful, caring, and always willing to listen. Despite having such a large family, she remembered birthdays and the little things that made each person feel special.

She was especially proud of her great-grandchildren. The joy she felt when her grandchildren brought the little ones to visit her and Wiinskii will always be remembered.

Annette had a way of making people feel loved simply by being there. Her beautiful smile, kind heart, gentle nature, and calming energy brought comfort to everyone around her.

Her greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind. Her love, teachings, stories, and strength will continue through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When her family gathers, shares stories, prepares food, spends time on the land, and passes teachings to another generation, a part of Annette will always be there.

Though we will miss her more than words can express, we find comfort knowing that her love will continue to live through the generations she helped nurture.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to join us as we honour and celebrate the life of Marie Anntoinette “Annette” Fobister.

Wake service will begin on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 12:00pm and will continue on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Agnes’ Fisher’s Building in Grassy Narrows First Nation. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 11:00 am led by Paul Lee with burial to follow.
