It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Melvin Roy Gerlitz, who passed away peacefully at home on Aug 30, 2026 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by Carla, his wife of 53 years, in 2009.
Mel will be remembered for his time spent in Minaki as a self-employed electrician, his hearty appetite for fish fry's, and his love for the game of bridge. Mel and Carla wintered in Weslaco, Texas for over 20 years, as well as travelled the world together. One of their favourite trips was to the Seychelles and Kenya.
Mel was the proud parent of two daughters, Pam (Mike) and Cathy, and a grandparent to four grandchildren: Colin (Whitney), Christine, Joelle (Jason) and Mitchell. He was also blessed to have several great-grandchildren: Kayden, Rhett, Jack, Ava and Piper who brought immense joy to his life.
In 2021, Mel moved from Minaki to Benidickson Court in Kenora. This made it much easier for him to get to his many games of bridge - sometimes up to 4 days per week.
Our family would like to thank all the staff of Kenora Supportive Housing, especially Sara. They truly are angels and were so good to Dad.
A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. Please consider donating to a charity of your choice in Mel's honour.
