It is with incredibly heavy hearts that the family shares the passing of Nadine McDonald (née Cormier), who passed peacefully at her home on September 4, 2026, surrounded by her beloved husband, Mark McDonald and family. At 52 years old, Nadine leaves behind her three daughters; Sarah (Nick Hendy), Josée (Max Baldam), and Angèle (Jared Neniska). As well as her cherished two-year-old grandson Jack Hendy and expected granddaughter. She is reunited in heaven now with her father, Gerald Cormier, her infant sister, Michèle, parents-in-law, Annette and Delbert McDonald, among many family and friends.
Nadine was born on November 6, 1973 in Winnipeg Manitoba, to parents Gerald and Doris Cormier. She was second eldest to a family of four children, Nicole (Kevin Young), Richard (Tamara Cormier), and Brigitte (Matt Temple).
From a young age, Nadine was outgoing, driven, athletic, and academic. After high school, she continued her education attending the University of Manitoba where she met the love of her life, Mark. Mark and Nadine were grateful to have just celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary two weeks before she passed. Together, Mark and Nadine were blessed with three beautiful daughters.
Nadine was incredibly talented in all that she did, and that carried through to her professional life. Her career began at the Hudson’s Bay company in cosmetics. This led to Mark and Nadine moving to Oakville, ON where she became Account Executive for Nectar Cosmetics, managing stores and training across Canada. Despite the success of her career and promotion opportunities, it was in 1997 when Mark and Nadine made the pivotal decision to move to Kenora, seeking a slower-paced and family-centered life. As the girls got older, it allowed Nadine the opportunity to work alongside her husband at Mark R McDonald Financial Services with Sun Life, which was a meaningful part of her life for 20+ years.
Nadine was a selfless person, devoting much of her time to her family and others. She had a gift of teaching, as shown in the many years that she homeschooled her daughters, and her commitment to the RCIA program at her church. She loved being involved and giving back to her community, including her time on the Try Light Theatre board and volunteering to many of her children’s extracurricular activities.
Nadine had a deep devotion to God and her faith. Her relationship with God was the unshakeable constant that was interwoven into every aspect of her marriage, motherhood, and friendships. She had an infectious joy for life and admirable self-discipline in her daily routine. Friends and family will deeply miss her dinner parties, kitchen dance parties, her meals and baking, and wine pairings. Travelling and new experiences were a priority, especially when done with family. She had an understatedly funny sense of humour and spunk that would cheer up her whole family. Some of her most enjoyed athletic hobbies included golfing, curling, and cross-country skiing. In more recent years, she loved her cabin and the peace that spending time with family there had brought her. Her sunset kayak was a highlight for her, even in recent months.
Despite all of her loves and passions she enjoyed, Nadine was clear that the greatest and most rewarding gifts in her life were her husband, her daughters, her sons-in-law, and becoming a “Mimi” when she welcomed her grandson. Time spent with family was most cherished.
Her journey with cancer, while not the outcome we had prayed for, was a journey that actively had God’s hand in it. Nadine will be deeply missed, and we know that she will be with us daily.
The family would like to give a sincere thank you to Dr Olson and her staff, her surgeon Dr Hristov, Dr Nicole Pander and the team at Fortify Wellness in Winnipeg, and Mike Limerick and the nurses involved in her daily care towards the end of her life.
A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m.
