Norie leaves to mourn her children Mark (Nicole), Karla, Troy (Eva) who will dearly miss their mother. Norie was the center of our family, the pillar of strength that kept us together. She was our matriarch. She was our home away from home. Her presence in our lives will leave an emptiness that will stay with us always.
Norie leaves to mourn her Grandchildren Desirae (Jordan), Rylie, Tiffany, Tyler, Justin, Taylor, Elijah and Noah and Great Grandchildren Mikaela, Liam and Bowen. Amma’s home was always open to her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She loved them unconditionally and with her whole heart.
Norie leaves to mourn her brothers Helgi Thorsteinson (Barb), Thor Thorsteinson (Debbie), and Eric Thorsteinson (Karen). Her brother in-laws Rene Garrow (Linda), Wayne Garrow (Kathy), Glen Garrow (Diane) and many nieces and nephews.
Norie is predeceased by her husband Bill Garrow, her parents Yonina and Harold Thorsteinson, her brother Paul Thorsteinson, her nephews, Kelly Thorsteinson and Hal Thorsteinson, and brother in-law David Garrow.
Norie was born in Virden, Manitoba and finally settled in Kenora where she met the love of her life and married on September 29, 1962. Norie and Bill had a beautiful life together for 49 years. They spent their summers in Lobstick Bay, and once they retired, they spent their winters in South Padre Island, Texas. Wherever Norie and Bill were, they were always surrounded by family and friends. They are finally back together and will surely continue their adventures together. Mom will have so much to tell Dad. As many of you knew, Norie could hold you up in the grocery store talking about her family and how proud she was of all of us. She loved people and was always eager to “catch up”. She was a people person, she was kind, she was generous, she was independent, and she was strong. The kindness she showed to people she knew, and to those she didn’t know, stayed with you and left people with the feeling that we all needed to be kinder to others.
Norie will be dearly missed by her family and her community. Thank you to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital for your kindness and support through this very difficult time. Your compassion and empathy did not go unnoticed. Thank you to everyone for coming to visit and family and friends from afar who called Norie, its exactly what she needed. She needed to hear our laughter and reminiscing. It was the perfect way to send her off to reunite with her soulmate.
As per Norie’s request, there will be no service. She wanted everyone to celebrate her life and remember her, in their own way. If Norie touched your life in some way, keep that memory alive by being kind to others, loving your family unconditionally, and always have your heart open to forgiveness and love.
