It is great sadness to announce the sudden passing of our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, Nyssa Sherkora Joseph on August 14, 2026 at the age of 20 years.
Nyssa was born October 18, 2005 in Kenora, Ontario to Cory Joseph Sr. and Cheronne Paypompee, she is survived by her fiancée Darrien Beardy and her siblings Bryson Paypompee, Cory Joseph Jr. and Zuri Joseph. Grandparents Jack Kelly, JoAnn Guendouze, Alvin Bird and Hazel Joseph. Nephews Troy and Talon Paypompee and niece Jenaya Paypompee. Aunt and uncles Keanu Paypompee, Robert Sam, Ryan Jack. Aunty mom Cheryl Crow (Clayton), Shandale Jack (Jules), Felicity Jack (Paddy) Roberta Sam, Candace Sam, Jenny Joseph, Elfreda Sam and many relatives too numerous to mention.
Reunited with her beloved father Cory Joseph Sr, aunty Bailey Paypompee, sister-in-law Jesse- Anne Kwandibens, cousin Hazel Sam and her great grandparents Edna and Eli Whitefeather, Steven and Florence Bird, Samuel Paypompee and Bertha Paypompee, Jim Kelly and Ann Bird.
Nyssa and her boyfriend Darrien enjoyed working together, cleaning boats at the Grassy Narrows Resort, she had a good sense of humor and loved to joke around and laugh, she would sneak and take other people’s cellphones and take selfies, she loved her nephews and her nieces dearly, she loved to travel and meet new people. The most she enjoyed was when she would lay around with her sister Zuri they would talk about the good old days and the memories they had and laugh about them, she enjoyed doing crafts, dancing and liked to play chess. She liked going out fishing with her papa Jack, she had a pet dog name Spot/Stormi. Nyssa like to spend time watching movies, writing and listening to music, most of all taking pictures of the clouds and nature. We will miss her very much but she will live in our memories.
The family would like to say chii miigwetch to Kenora OPP, Treaty Three Police, Kenora Paramedics, Dr Lass, Naotkamegwanning Band Office, Health Services, Shawendaasowin & Prevention Services, Women’s Shelter, the golfers for their donation, Anne Shebagegit, Melvina Cowley, Cory Jinkerson (Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre) and most of all Naotkamegwanning community members and the surrounding communities for their love and caring support.
Traditional Services will be held at Naotkamegwanning Peshigoneb Building on Saturday, August 22, 2026 followed by Traditional Funeral Services on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 10:00a.m. Officiated by Elder Laura Horton of Rainy River first Nation.
