It is with incredible sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Uncle and Friend, Raymond Sinclair on September 18th, 2017. Born on October 2nd, 1941, Ray lived and loved his entire life in Kenora, ON and proudly embraced his Métis heritage.
Greeting Ray with glorious anticipation are his parents Hugh and Kay Sinclair, his brother Fred and wife Lorna and brother George; infant sisters Pamela and Mary, as well as in-laws Ben and Bernie St. Croix, Karen St. Croix, Delbert McDonald, nephew Ben McDonald and undoubtedly, with great excitement, Bandit, Reba, Angel and Jackie Bear.
Ray will live on forever in the hearts of his family and will most especially be missed by his lifelong love, Jeanne. His gorgeous bedroom eyes garnered him a huge kiss when they first met and ignited one of the most enduring love stories ever written. They married, October 2nd, 1965 and in a couple weeks they would have celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary.
Cherishing his loving memory are his daughter Kathi (Joe Tardi), who will always be ‘daddy’s little girl’ and his son Kevin, tremendously devoted, he’ll always be his ‘Number One’; his ultra-amazing grandchildren Tyler, Phillip, Trinity, Owen and Collin; as well as his son Dean. Also left to mourn are loving in-laws, Alice Sinclair, Annette McDonald, Victor and Joan St. Croix, Beatrice and Dave Burt, Rick and Michelle St. Croix and a bounty of nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special friends, Gord Smith and Bob Wilcox and all his morning coffee crew.
A member of the Knights of Columbus for 45 years, Ray was a kind and gentle soul who had a uniquely special and quiet relationship with God. He was dependable and selfless; everyone could rely on him to drop whatever he was doing to help them. Papa also spent endless hours with his grandson Phillip, from tyke to teen to twenty-something, day or night… he was Phillip’s constant, his everything in life.
Ray often talked fondly of the many friendships he made with his coworkers and customers during his 35 years of dedicated service as a meat cutter for Westfair Foods. Starting at the original Shop-Easy Store in 1966, he then went to Loblaws and eventually retired from Extra Foods in 2001.
He loved his camp on Welcome Channel and some of his happiest moments in life were spent there, entertaining family and friends and fishing and boating on beautiful Lake of the Woods.
Seeking a hobby in retirement, he became a member of the Lake of the Woods Carving Club and learned the craft of wood carving. He was enormously talented and soon became a master at carving birds; several being commissioned and many for those he loved.
Ray touched the lives of so many people back in the “Bus Depot” and “Aqua Viva” days… may you all treasure his good humour and charming smile always.
The family would like to thank the numerous physicians, nurses and staff at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Prayers will be held at 7:00pm, Sunday, Sept 24th, 2017 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Ray’s nephew, Fr. Ben St. Croix (Toronto) at 11:00 am Monday, Sept. 25th, 2017 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Keewatin. A private family interment will take place
