It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, relative, and friend, Susan (Susie) Everson. Susie passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Palliative Care Unit with family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Susie is predeceased by her mother Catherine (Kitty) Everson, sister Lisa Everson, niece Charlie Everson-Greene, brother Charlie Everson, cousin Edward Everson, stepfather Neil Moore and father, Ronald Everson.
Susie is survived by her children Darci, Cody and Cory (Jolene), grandchildren Mem (Lauryn), Moon, Zayd, Angus, Kingston & Kinzie, siblings Ron (Lise), Eric, Rena (Joe), Randy, and Ingrid (Vince), nieces Lindsay, Jamie (Cory), Caitlin, Darby, Shayla, nephews Ronald, Ryan, Kane, Jory, Nathaniel, Frank and John. Her great nephew Junior (Angel) and great-great niece, Luna. She will also be missed by her close cousins Nancy, Patti, Debbie, Melanie, her best friend Elsie, and numerous other relatives and friends, too many to name individually. Susie had a special relationship with her niece Brittany and the family is grateful for the time they spent together.
Susie loved music and dancing and always had music or the radio playing in the background. She was the life of the party and made friends everywhere she went. A simple walk downtown could take hours, because she would chat with so many people along the way. The song Susie Q was often dedicated and sung to her and many of her family and friends lovingly called her Susie Q. She loved watching old tv shows like The Golden Girls, Three’s Company, and Gilligan’s Island. She would often tell her sons when playing crib together, “grab a drink of water because you’re going to eat my dust.” She loved thrifting and was always finding treasures to gift to her family and friends, making sure to buy something they loved as she knew who collected what. She was the auntie who remembered all our birthdays and made sure to call and make birthday wishes.
Susie loved her children and was especially proud of all her grandchildren. She absolutely loved being a grandma and spoiled them in different ways. She referred to her grandson Zayd as a boy named Sue. She was proud of Mem for taking after her in loving music and singing and never missed one of Mem’s musical performances. Susie loved being with her friends and family. She also loved the camping and boating life on Lake of the Woods and the annual houseboating trip with Max & Rose. Susie was highly intelligent, quick at crosswords and word games that challenged her mind. She especially loved playing cash-cab with her boys. Susie had a quick wit and an amazing sense of humour, which could be heard through her one-of-a-kind laugh. Susie was always eager to help family and friends in whatever way they needed assistance. She had a big heart and was a friend to many. We all loved her for her lively, feisty and generous spirit. In her recovery, Susie found her voice through pen and began using poetry to support her healing. She was also committed to lifelong learning and quickly made friends in her classes at Confederation College in Thunder Bay. Susie worked at different seasonal resorts as a cook’s helper and cleaner.
As per Susie’s wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery. A traditional wake will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, with the funeral to follow at 11:00am on November 7, 2025. Both the wake and funeral will be held at the Super 8 Minis Hall.
For those unable to attend the funeral service will be livestreamed at https://fweb.tv/231219
