May 30, 1963 – November 4, 2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan Lemay, who left us peacefully with her daughter by her side. Susan was a cherished member of the Kenora community, remembered for her kind heart, generosity, and lifelong commitment to helping others.
She was predeceased by her parents, Nellie and John, and is survived by her loving daughter Kimberley; her brother Stan (Tracey); her sister Carol (Brian); her nieces Lynsey (Cody), Melissa (Justin), and Brook; her nephew Tanner; and her great-nephew Knox.
Susan spent her entire life in Kenora — the community she loved so deeply. She grew up in the Brick Yard area, where she enjoyed a close-knit neighbourhood filled with family and friends. She attended Mount Carmel Elementary School, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas and Beaver Brae Secondary School, where she formed many lifelong friendships.
As a teenager, Susan worked at the Kenwood Hotel alongside her mother, Nellie, waitressing and bartending. It was there that the Katz family welcomed her as one of their own and taught her many valuable life lessons that she carried throughout her life. Susan later studied accounting at college in Thunder Bay and began her career in Winnipeg with Cambrian Credit Union. During her frequent visits home, she met Brent, whom she married. Together, they built a beautiful home in Kenora and started their family, blessed with their little miracle, Kimberley.
Upon returning to Kenora, Susan worked for many years at TD Bank before discovering her true calling in real estate, first with Royal LePage and later with Century 21. Her colleagues quickly became like family. Susan found immense joy in helping others find a place to call home. She worked tirelessly, always going the extra mile for her clients, celebrating their milestones, easing their worries, and treating each sale or purchase with heartfelt care. Her honesty, warmth, and integrity earned her lasting friendships and a reputation for compassion that defined both her career and her character.
Outside of work, Susan devoted her time and energy to causes close to her heart. She volunteered with Special Olympics, coaching bowling every Monday at the Kenora Bowling Lanes and proudly cheering on athletes at their regional competitions in Thunder Bay. She was an honorary member of the Rotary Club, selling countless tickets for the Lucky Duck Race and Dream Vacation Draws, and she was a dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League, contributing faithfully in many roles over the years.
A devoted Catholic, Susan lived her life through Christ’s teachings. Her faith guided her every day and inspired the kindness, humility, and generosity she shared so freely with others. She found deep purpose and peace in her faith and in her church community, which she served with love and gratitude.
Although Susan had many special people in her life, the family would like to recognize a few who held a very special place in her heart. Her cousin Frank (Connie) shared countless milestones, laughter, and cherished memories with her — his friendship and support meant the world to her. Bill Toner, her former principal and dear friend, offered years of kindness, visits, and unwavering encouragement, bringing her great comfort, especially during her time in the hospital. She always spoke of him with deep appreciation and fondness. Susan was also blessed with an incredible circle of friends — Jocelyn, Alycia, Suzanne, and Teresa — who brought her endless laughter, strength, and love. Through every season of her life, they stood by her side with unwavering friendship, filling her days with comfort, humour, and joy. To the Century 21 team, thank you for being Susan’s rock through so many of life’s challenges. You were not just colleagues, but true friends — offering encouragement, laughter, and steadfast support when she needed it most. She cared deeply for each of you and was so proud to be part of a team that felt like family.
A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the nurses and doctors at the Kenora District Hospital, especially the staff on the second and third floors, as well as the teams at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in the renal, cardiac, and ICU departments. The compassion and care they showed Susan until the very end of her life will never be forgotten. Their kindness, patience, and gentle support brought comfort to her and to her family during the most difficult moments.
Susan will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her generous spirit, and her unwavering faith. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved — whether through a warm conversation, a helping hand, or a simple act of kindness. Her strength, courage, and compassion will continue to inspire all those whose lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us, her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
A Prayer Vigil will be held at Notre Dame du Portage Church on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., followed by her Funeral, Burial, and Luncheon the next day, Wednesday, November 12, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Susan are invited to join in celebrating the remarkable life of a woman whose faith, love, and generosity touched the hearts of everyone she met.
