It is with great sadness we announce that Valerie passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2021 with her loving husband Roger by her side.
She was predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Rudy Exner, sister Sharon Exner, Regina, SK; sister Kathleen Pielak, North Battleford, SK, mother and father-in-law Henry and Yvonne Metail, and brother and sister-in-law George and Bonnie Metail, Kenora, ON.
Valerie is survived by her husband of 48 years Roger, sisters Judy Exner, Rita (Don) McCormick, Kenora, ON, Patricia (Nick) Loffler, Sicamous BC, twin brother Vern (Cheryl) Exner, McLean, SK, Kevin (Karen) Exner, Regina, SK, Peter Pielak, North Battleford, SK, sister-in-law Pauline (Bill) Kerr, brothers-in-law Aimie (Linda) Metail, and Robert (Wendy) Metail, Kenora, ON. She will be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
Valerie was born in Regina and moved to Kenora when she met Roger. She was employed with Service Canada before opening and operating Northwest Fire and Safety along with a successful scuba diving shop. She was an active volunteer with the Pellatt Firehall and Community Club for several years as well as taught computer courses at Community College. After their business ventures she retired to a serene lifestyle on Muriel Lake. Their lakefront property was the scene of many family gatherings which included water skiing, scuba diving, fishing and snowmobiling. Everyone enjoyed Valerie's delicious fried chicken, walleye fish fries and homemade baking.
Valerie loved her garden and kept busy with her woodworking hobby creating beautiful lawn ornaments, recipe boxes and holiday decorations. She had many dogs over the years and will be deeply missed by Max and Molly.
Due to Covid restrictions no funeral service will be held. A private family service will take place later this summer. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
