Violet Lola Ashopenace was born on August 21, 1979, and passed away on July 13, 2026. She was a woman whose strength, kindness, and laughter left a lasting mark on those who knew her. Her life was defined by compassion, resilience, and unconditional love.

A lifelong resident of Grassy Narrows, Violet believed that no one should face life’s hardships alone. She was always willing to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a comforting presence to those who needed it most. She had a remarkable ability to be there for people during their hardest moments, offering comfort, encouragement, and genuine care. She was courageous through life’s challenges and remained a source of strength to those around her.

Violet was proud of completing her SP-100 Firefighter certification and earning her Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification. These accomplishments were an important part of her journey and showed her dedication to learning and personal growth.

Being a mother was the greatest joy of Violet’s life. Her children were the center of her world, and she loved them fiercely. She valued her family, her home, and the meaningful friendships she built throughout her life.

Violet found joy in life's simple moments. She loved listening to all genres of music, cooking, gardening whenever she had the chance, and caring for animals. She had a playful sense of humor, loved to joke around, and had a way of filling every room with laughter. Her favorite colors were purple, navy, and grey.

One of Violet’s greatest joys was attending pow-wows with her daughter. She cherished those times together, celebrating culture, community, and tradition. She always looked forward to watching traditional dancer Eric Wilson and admired his talent and passion.

Violet was predeceased by her loving mother, Mary Madeline Ashopenace; her grandparents, Madeline Ashopenace, Richard Sr. Ashopenace, Issac Kabestra, and Kathleen Swain; and her sister, Rosemary Ashopenace.

She is lovingly remembered by her father, Clifford Swain Sr., and his wife, Jackie Swain; her beloved children, Jody, Arona, and Janessa; her siblings, Rosalee and Clifford Jr.; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Violet's life was a reflection of generosity, strength, and love. She gave freely, laughed often, and made people feel welcome wherever she went. She will be remembered not only for what she did, but for who she was—a compassionate, courageous, and loving woman whose beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Wake service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Trapper’s Building in Grassy Narrows First Nation. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Trapper’s Building in Grassy Narrows First Nation with cremation to follow.
