It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved William “Juni” Fobister Jr., affectionately known to many as “Scatman.” Juni was welcomed into the spirit world by those who went before him, including his first partner, Cheryl “La Pomme,” his niece Betty, his aunts and uncles Josephine, Alex, Gabe Fobister Sr., and John Fobister, as well as his beloved cousin-sister Bridgette Fobister and cousin Gwen Fobister.
He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He is survived by his parents, William “Wiinski” Fobister Sr. and Annette Fobister; and his common law Laura “Kwe.” Juni was a devoted and loving father to his children, Elsie, Billy, Kiera (Ramus), Waylon, and his last child does not want to be named, who were the pride and joy of his life.
He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Wendy, Bruce (April), Harrison (Nicole), and Travis (Tammy), as well as his many nieces and nephews: Sabrina, Devin, Kiinu (Shy), Jimi, Tabitha (Joey), Melissa, Jared, Jewel, Lydia, Tristin, Shayne, Jillian, Chloe, Harrison Jr., Jaydon, Joey, and Jack. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Giiwedinoong, Liam, Lovaya, Kyrie, Makylo, Lanaya, Connor, Zayvier, Layla, Tien, Sky, Kailee, Kinsley, Camden, Carson, Lylah, Avery, Avera, Xander, Tanner, Mavis, Ella, and Sunrise. He also held a special place in his heart for his furry grandchildren, Sidney, Ozzy, and Mocha.
Juni was blessed with a large extended family, including countless first cousins whom he grew up alongside and loved as brothers and sisters. Though too many to name individually, each one held a special place in his heart, and the bond they shared will never be forgotten.
Juni will be remembered as a kind-hearted man whose laughter and humor could brighten any room. He had a gift for making people smile, whether through his jokes, his infectious laugh, or by showing off his dance moves. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and genuinely wanted the best for those around him. He found great joy in cooking for family and friends, and he felt most at peace when surrounded by nature, family gatherings, Hunting, trapping, fishing, and spending time on the land were among the things he loved most. Juni was never afraid of hard work and constantly challenged himself to grow and succeed. Throughout his life, he excelled in many roles, including heavy machinery operator, finance administrator, and case aide worker, touching the lives of many through his dedication and work ethic. Above all else, Juni was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. Their accomplishments brought him endless happiness, and he spoke of them often with great pride and admiration. His love for his family was unwavering, and it was evident in everything he did.
Though our hearts are broken by his sudden passing, we take comfort in the memories he leaves behind—the laughter he shared, the lessons he taught, the love he gave so freely, and the countless lives he touched. Juni’s spirit will live on through his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
Juni’s wake will begin on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 12:00pm at Agnes’ Building in Grassy Narrows First Nation. Family and friends are welcome to gather in remembrance and celebration of his life. His funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Fobisters’ Island.
