William Murphy May 9, 1934 – February 3, 2019

It is with a sad heart that I announce the passing of William (Bill) Murphy at Lake of the Woods District Hospital on February 3, 2019 with his wife by his side.

Bill was born and grew up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He joined the Air Force at a young age and moved west. He never returned to the East Coast except to visit. On such a journey in the late 50’s he got side tracked to this area and never left.

He worked for various tourist operations, among them Plummers Great Bear Lake Resort where he was employed for a good number of years.

He married Billie Jean Haas in 1968 and they left Sioux Narrows to work for Handbergs’ Campbells Cabins on Lac la Croix. They returned to Sioux Narrows in 1972 and built their home on Regina Bay. After working some years for Gills Trading Post, he acquired the Maintenance Person position with the Township of Sioux Narrows from which he retired in 1994.

Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting and after retiring took up his old love of golf. He would travel to various local golf courses with is golf buddies that he met at Beauty Bay Golf Course. He could relate many funny and good memories of those days.

Bill was predeceased by both parents, a younger brother and numerous aunts and uncles. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, his youngest brothers Vincent (Bud) Murphy and family of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation has taken place and as per Bills wishes, there will be no formal service. He prefers to be remembered (kindly, he hopes) at your next coffee gathering or other social event.

If so desired, memorial donations in his memory can be made to the LWDH, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Sorry to hear of Bill's passing.
I always knew I was in for a good time and lots of stories when paired up with him for a round of golf on Men's Day at the Moose.

We are so sorry to hear of Bill's passing as we just learned yesterday. I wanted too see you guys before we left south and now I know I should have. I have some fond memories of Bill and how he was a friend to the Law family. I loved his sense of humour and all the talks we had with him on Kilpatrick Road when he was returning home from coffee. Once, he quietly drove up behind us and when he reached us on our walk. he looks at Colleen and says, " you have a nice ass"!!! Great guy and we will think of him in each of our walks.

Billie, we are so sorry to hear we lost Bill. I will and have always considered him a friend. And I will remember always the time I spent with him at Plummers Great Bear Lake Lodge. How he took a green kid under his wing and showed me the ropes.
God bless Billie. Stay strong.

Love always,
