Wong attended Fresno schools, and graduated from Edison High School in 1957. He first came to Kerman in the mid-1950s when his father ran the former Ace Super Market at Belmont and Madera Avenues.
He attended both Fresno City College and Fresno State College (now California State University, Fresno). He was also a member of the California Air National Guard. He was employed for 33 years with the United States Postal Service, with most of his years as a rural route carrier.
After being married to Lilly Deaton, he married Joyce Staats Bledsoe on Jan. 22, 1968 in Las Vegas, a day after his 30th birthday. Gilbert and Joyce were married for 52 years prior to his passing. They enjoyed trips to Oregon, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and camping at places including Cedar Grove.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and his son, Thomas Wong. Living to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce; their sons, Donnie Wong of Kerman and Mike Bledsoe (partner Darryl Harvey) of Bakersfield; his sister and brother-in-law, Melane and Rich Partain of Bakersfield; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Peggy and George Hawley of Fresno; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tim and Becky Staats of Aledo, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron and Andres (Andrew) Carrasco-Wong of Selma and McKenzie Bloesinger-Wong of Eugene, Oregon; 13 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and relatives.
Due to COVID 19, no services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future.
