

Maryann Sobieszczyk, 84 of Kimball, died at her home on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball with Father Robert Karnish and Jack Schalf officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery. Christian wake service will be held at the Cantrell Funeral Home on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m. To view the obituary and leave condolences for the family, visit www.cantrellfh.com . Maryann Sobieszczyk was born in Spaulding, Nebraska on August 30, 1927, the daughter of William and Helen (Schalf) Gallagher. She moved at an early age with her family to Odessa. She attended school in Odessa and graduated from the Odessa High School in 1945. She attended Kearney State Teachers College for a year and while there she worked at the Fort Kearney Hotel. She met Al Sobieszczyk and they were married on August 5, 1945. They lived in Bayard for a short time before moving to Kimball in 1950. Maryann was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. She worked at Carol’s Nut List when her children were raised and not living at home any longer. She took many pictures throughout her life and had made a photo history for each of her children. She was a great cook and always had peanut brittle in the house. She made many Afghans and enjoyed doing embroidery work and was a member of the Needles and Hooks Club. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Alter Society and worked in the kitchen for many funeral diners and wedding receptions. She was active with her family, and served as a den mother and Campfire Leader while her children were involved in Scouting. She also attended as many of her grandchildren’s functions that she could.
Survivors include her sons J. Michael Sobieszczyk of Bend, OR., John (Teresa) Sobieszczyk of Phoenix, AZ and Joe Sobieszczyk also of Phoenix, AZ; daughters Cindy (Steve) Olson of Sidney, NE., Jean (Dave) Berreckman of Holdrege, NE., and Patty (Jim) Gravo of Henderson, NV; brother Pat (Sanae) Gallagher of Chula Vista, CA; sister Jean Bragg of Mullen, NE; grandchildren Celeste, Adrienne (Josh), Alicia, Abbie, Alexis, Rachel, Ben, Brandon and McKenzie. Her parents, husband and brother Bill preceded her in death.
