

Joe attended Central Michigan University and University of Detroit, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. He married the love of his life Patricia Somers on October 21, 1950 at the Kingsley United Methodist Church. Joe served four years, during WW II, in the Navy on the USS Ommaney Bay and USS Enterprise and is a member of the Ommaney Bay Reunion Association. After owning a Shell gas station, he opened his own accounting and tax practice, Photographic Bookkeeping Service, in Kingsley in 1955. After years of dedicated work, he retired in 1990. Joe was a member of the American Legion, Kingsley city council and Kingsley school board. He was also a lifelong member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church. Joe always had a joke to tell, and put a smile on everyone’s faces.
Joe’s hobbies included hunting, mushroom hunting, and woodworking. All of his children and grandchildren have special mementos handcrafted by him.
Joe is survived by his wife Patricia, children Nan (Timothy) Goldsmith and Reed (Barbara) Hooper of Kingsley, Jill Hooper-Rocco of Ludington, grandchildren Alison Goldsmith, Nicole Alejandro, Kristen Hooper, Katie (Sean) Leask, Elyse and Shay Rocco, great-grandchildren Zoe, Conner, Natalie, and Jackson. He is also survived by special family members Kay Price, Melanie and Mario Fernandez and their children, Sofia and Nico. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Hooper Jr., and niece Jamie Harper.
Visitation will be held on Sunday April 28, 2013 from 2 to 6 pm at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 29 at 11am at the Kingsley United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to The Rock of Kingsley, Munson Hospice House, or Kingsley United Methodist Church.
