Dick was born September 11, 1940 to Kent Parrish and Esther (Haltiner) Stiner in Detroit Michigan.
He attended Northrup Institute in California. There he received his degree in aviation and went to work at Zantop in Detroit, and United in Chicago.
Dick moved to Kingsley in 1975 to open Cherry Capital Aviation in Traverse City, which he ran for many years. He took a lot of pride in being a very experienced pilot and aviation technician.
On October 28, 1997 he married Jessica (Snyder) Raschi in Traverse City, Michigan. They were married 22 years and did lots of traveling and had many adventures
In December of 2010 he was awarded the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot Award’ and the Charles Taylor “Master Mechanic Award”. He was also a member of the Wally Byam Airstream Club, Kingsley volunteer fire fighter and ambulance for many years, member of the Traverse City Ham Radio Club (W8ILB), and a lifetime member of the Traverse City Elks Club Lodge #323.
His favorite place to spend time was up at his cabin in the U.P. It was his peaceful place where he loved sitting on the porch swing with his dog Katie looking over the water and watching the boats.
Dick is survived by his wife Jessica of Kingsley, his sons Kent (Linda) Stiner, Shawn (Erika) Stiner, Kelly (Kim) Stiner, Erick (Sandy) Stiner. Stepchildren Charlie (Erin) Raschi, Chad (Amy) Raschi, Craig (Erin) Raschi, and Courtney (Brandon) Hartley. He is survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a sister, Dona Fredrick.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Jessie (Holmes) Stiner, and brother-in-law Paul Fredrick.
Visitation for the family will be held at the Covell funeral home in Kingsley, Michigan, Saturday, May 23, 2020 from 12pm until 1pm, and from 1pm until 2pm for the general public. Burial will take place immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, with a graveside service officiated by Pastor Colleen Wierman of the Kingsley United Methodist Church.
In light of the current health situation, a rotation of only 10 people at a time will be admitted into the funeral home for the safety of our guests and family and all patrons are required to wear a mask at the funeral home and cemetery with social distancing measures in place at both locations.
