

He attended Manistee High School, graduating in 1953. After graduation, Robert served in the U.S. Army. He was employed for many years by Packing Corporation of America (P.C.A.) in Manistee, and was also self-employed as a builder. He was active in many organizations including; Bay Pointe and Faith Reformed Church of Traverse City, the American Legion Post # 219 of Fife Lake, Life member of Elks Lodge 323 of Traverse City and # 250 in Manistee, the Manistee Clan Muzzle Loading Club, and a member of the NRA. His love for hobbies included many car clubs such as the Cranking “T’s, the Model “T” International, Ford International, Brass and Gas , VMCCA, Horseless Carriage, and Snappers Antique. He was also involved with his church ministry, going on several mission trips to Belize.
Robert is survived by his children; Cheryl (Bob) Johnson, Karla Schumaker, Lenore (Dave) Tykoski, Robin Nice, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Terry (David) Tetzlaff, and dear friend Dan Webster. He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother Rollin Nice.
A Memorial service was held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Covell Funeral Home, in Kingsley, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00. Pastor Randy Burgess officiated. The fraternal order of Elks also participated in the service. Inurnment was held at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee with military honors presented.
Memorial contributions were made to the youth ministries at Faith Reformed Church of Traverse City.
Arrangements were under the direction of Covell Funeral Home, Kingsley, Michigan.
