Alfred L. Bush, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, June 22, 2018 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
Alfred was born April 10, 1931 in Mason, WV to the late Velma May and William Moodispaugh Bush. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. After serving in the military, he worked for Holston Defense for 30+ years until his retirement. Alfred was instrumental in the forming of the Bethesda Fellowship Church on Stafford Road, which has become the Southern Baptist Children’s Home. He was a long time member of the Sullivan Baptist Church where he participated in the choir and helped with the VBS programs. Alfred also enjoyed working out at the Great Body Company and spending time with friends at the Breakfast Club at Hardees. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. His grandson, Alex, was the apple of his eye.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Agnes Bush, his parents Velma May and William Moodispaugh Bush, and his brothers William “Red” Bush, Herbert Lee Bush, and Charles Bush.
Those left to cherish his memories are his son Randy Bush and wife Susan, daughter Sandy Wolfe and husband Jerry, grandson Alex Bush, brother Leonard Bush, sister Marjorie Neal and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday June 24, 2018 from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Sullivan Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 6:00pm with Pastor Jeff Strong, Pastor Andy Coffman, and Pastor Paul Overbay officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Monday June 25, 2018 at 10:00am at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Hope. Military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 3/265.
In lieu of flowers, it was Alfred’s wishes for memorial contributions to be made to the Sullivan Baptist Church Building Fund, 4152 Maplewood St., Kingsport, TN 37660.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff of James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for the care they provided to Alfred.
