Carl D. Bockman, Jr. 95, passed away peacefully in his home on the evening of April 7th, 2018. Carl was born in Kansas City, MO and received his BS from Central Methodist College. During college, he enlisted in the Marines to serve a tour of duty in the Pacific theater of WWII. After being honorably discharged, he earned a Master’s Degree from Northeastern University in Boston. He returned to teach at Central Methodist for 2 years at which time he was recruited by Eastman, where he was a Chemist for 33 years until his retirement at 62.
Carl was involved in the community through work with the Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, _Meals on Wheels, the Sertoma Club, Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, and the Kingsport Senior Center. Carl enjoyed traveling and golf, owned and stewarded a tree farm, and was an accomplished artist of painting, woodworking, and carving.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Edna Bockman; and his wife of over 50 years, Dee.
Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Lee; son, David Bockman (Jane); daughter, Jill Hoyle (Jay); daughter Janet Bockman; and grandchildren Ryan, Claire, and Amy.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday (April 22, 2018) at 2pm at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church (1415 Waverly Road Kingsport, TN 37664) after which the family will greet friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waverly Road Food Pantry.
