July 29th, 1938 - Nov. 28th, 2020
Dorothy’s story began on July 29th 1938 in Daisetta, Texas. She was the first of seven children, born to Rev. William C. and Linnie F. Young. Born and raised in a minister’s home, Dorothy learned at a young age the power of prayer and the importance of having faith.
She began music lessons at four years old and learned to play the piano, organ and accordion.
When the four older children were young they would play church in the
woods behind the house. She would pretend to be the pianist and bounce, bounce, bounce on the piano stool, pretending to be like the church pianist, Sis. Vita Mae Spikes.
She did develop into a good musician, playing in youth services and the main church services, then later playing her accordion as she and her brothers traveled the U.S. and Canada.
Dorothy leaves behind her two beloved children; son, Lauren Cameron Brooks and daughter, Terri Lynn Brooks, her six beautiful grandchildren whom she adored; Morgan E. Brooks, Madalyn G. Brooks, Samuel A. Williams, Christopher L. Williams, Bailey N. Williams and Ashton G. Williams. She also leaves behind her six siblings, Rev. Simeon L. Young. (Janice), Rev. W. Curtis Young Jr. (Jo Alice), Martha G. Harper (Rev. Randy Harper), Rev. Nathaniel L. Young(Joan), Katie G. McCool (Gary McCool) and Rev. Francis L. Young (Neita-deceased) and many nieces, nephews who loved her very much.
