Frances Jeanette Wells, 98, received her angel wings on Wednesday (March 21, 2018) following an extended illness. Frances was born on March 18, 1920 in Norton, VA to the late Maynard & Ollie Frances (Blevins) Whitaker.
Frances was one of the original founders of Park Ave Baptist Church where she served as the pianist for many years. Frances was a dedicated Christian, whom loved the Lord and her family with all of her heart. In her later years, Frances moved to Mesa, Arizona. Frances loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend; she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Rufus “R.E.” Wells; son, Ralph “Butch” Wells; grandson, Jonathan Wells; and sister, Kathleen Shanks.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Mary Beth Wright & husband Jerry; son, Mike Wells & wife Mary; daughter-in-law, Carlotta Wells; eight grandchildren, Robert Wells, Jennifer Smith, Melissa Malchaski-Wally, Cody Wells, Austin Wells, Brian Wright, Stephanie Robinson, and Steven Wright; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Frances will be entombed beside her beloved husband on Wednesday (March 28, 2018) at 1 p.m. at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens (5650 Powell Valley Road, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219) with Pastor Lee Kidd officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sonia and Jerri for the love and compassionate care that was both given and shown to Frances during her time of need.
