Georgia Mae Brooks

Georgia Mae Gilliam Horton Brooks, age 93, of Kingsport, entered into rest on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Wexford House. Ms. Brooks was a Scott County, Virginia, native and the daughter of the late George and Dora Rhodes Gilliam. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maudie McMurray; brother, Walter Gilliam, foster parents: Lloyd and Minnie Gilliam, whom she went to live with at the age of 10, following the death of her parents, along with several half brothers and sisters.

Ms. Brooks was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church; Home Demonstration Club and the Indian Path Senority Club. She retired from Eastman Kodak where she had worked in the Yarn Plant. Ms. Brooks enjoyed traveling and loved to make crafts.

Survivors include her son, Raymond “Jim” Horton and wife Ann; granddaughters: Lisa Stremsterfer and husband Alan, Pat Sterling and husband Bob and Vicki Wilson and husband Jeff; great grandchildren: Ashley Duty and husband Dusty, Ben Sterling, Dusty Sterling and Brandon Stremsterfer; great-great granddaughter, Laura Ann Duty; two special nieces: Wanda Horne and Barbara Bowling, along with several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Horne, officiating. Music will be provided by Terra Smith and Brother Michael Morgan. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeff Wilson, Bob Sterling, Alan Stremsterfer, Ben Sterling, Dusty Sterling, Brandon Stremsterfer, Dusty Duty and Jess Bowling.

The family would like to send a special Thank You to the nurses and staff of the 5th wing of Wexford House, for their care of Ms. Brooks as well as her special friends, Macie and Dennis Adkins.
