He was born in Washington County, VA on April 11, 1929. He was the son of the late John M. Lewis and Celia Blevins Lewis.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Kingsport, TN. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Appalachian Electrical Power after 36 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Dellno Lewis, Sr., John Lewis, Dan Lewis, and Claude Lewis; sisters: Willis Humphrey, Betty McVey, Roxie Humphrey Miller, and Gladys Hall Hocket.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Mary DeFriece Lewis; sons: Donald (Estenia) Lewis, Glen (Linda) Lewis, Sam (Lori) Lewis, James (Susan) Lewis, and Tom (Stephanie) Lewis; daughters: Sylvia (Mike) Brown, Janice (Haynes) Miller, Ruth (Tracy) Holtsclaw, Mary Katherine (Timothy) Gann, and Linda (Robert) Roberts; brothers: Eugene (Janet) Lewis and Walter (Alice) Lewis; sisters: Mary Kestner, Sarah (Marvin) Perry, and Reba Humphrey; sister-in-law, Carolyn Lewis; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and special caregiver Ann Trent.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at First Assembly of God Church, 2213 Brandon Ln, Kingsport, TN. Services will follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Paul Wright and Rev. Timothy Gann officiating.
Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Gethsemane. The American Legion Post 3/265 will conduct military rites.
His Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
