November 3, 2009Irene “Cat” LawsonIrene “Cat” Lawson age 84 of Kingsport passed away November 2, 2009 at Erwin Health Care, Erwin, TN.Irene was born in Burke County, NC to the late William and Minnie Lee Carswell. She has resided in Kingsport all her life. She was a retired employee of The Kingsport Press and attended The Church Of God. Irene played basketball and bowled in several leagues.In addition to her parents she preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, E. H. Lawson in 1972, six brothers and two sisters.Surviving are her daughter, Janet Anderson and husband Roy Dempsey, Kingsport; one son, Charles Lawson and wife Janet, Jonesborough, TN. Granddaughter, Stephanie McGaha and husband Daniel, Nashville, TN. Grandson, Matthew Lawson, Johnson City, TN. Great-grandchildren; Maddie and Aidan McGaha, Nashville, TN. Brother, Clyde “Scrapper” Carswell, NC. Sisters, Mary Lou Childress and Nora Lee Powell both of Kingsport. Several Nieces and nephews.Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2009 from 6-8 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 8:00 PM with Rev. Leighton Roberts and Rev. Roy Graves, officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM in East Lawn Memorial Park.
