On Friday, August 20th, James Henry Garst peacefully went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ. For those who knew Jim, he always had a smile on his face and often a joke to tell. He was definitely a “people person” and never met a stranger. Jim grew up and lived in Blountville his entire life. He attended Holston High School and graduated from Blountville High School, Class of 1961. Not long after graduating high school, Jim joined the Tennessee National Guard and remained active for seven years. Because Jim definitely had the “gift of gab” he was an excellent sales person with various companies. He retired from Sam’s Wholesale Club in the early 90’s.
Jim was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren in Blountville, TN. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Paul Ivan Garst, Sr. and Dorothy Alice Smith Garst; nephew, Gregory Alan Garst; both paternal and maternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Amy Garst Archer and her husband, Anthony; his son, Jason Paul Garst; granddaughter, Molly Archer; and the mother of his children, Connie Gilley. Surviving brothers include, Paul Garst, Jr., Mike Garst, Danny Garst and his wife, Betty; nephews, Brian Garst and his wife, Jerri Ann, Billy Garst, Jeff Garst and his wife Hannah; nieces, Stephanie Garst Baker and her husband, Noel, Michelle Garst, Macie Garst, and Harley Barrett; great-niece, Jubilee Garst; and great-nephews, Dayton Baker and Finley Baker.
