

Jimmy Lewis Shivley, 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 12:30am. He loved to read his Bible every day. He was a faithful man and member of the Island Road Evangelical Methodist Church. He went every Sunday and Wednesday until he wasn’t able to go due to his declining health from Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, Board of Stewards and was an Honorary Steward. Mr. Shivley was born in Hiltons, Virginia, to the late William and Nellie Shivley. He lived in Kingsport and Blountville most of his life. He attended Gate City High School and received his GED while serving in the United States Army. He joined the Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. While in service he received the following decorations and citations; National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a true hero to his country and family. He worked at Howard Duckett, Watson Lithographic and was part owner of Interstate Graphics in Johnson City, Tennessee. He retired from work in 1976 due to his health. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and spending time with his precious granddaughter that he loved dearly. Mr. Shivley was a very loving husband, dad, papaw and brother. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Lewis Shivley; and one brother, Robert “Bud” Shivley. Mr. Shivley is survived by his loving wife Sallie of 56 years; his loving daughter, Denise Shivley-Neal and husband Marty, of Blountville, TN; one very precious granddaughter Amber Neal and her puppy Oreo; three sisters and one brother, Vera Fields, Angelene Vance, Darlene Byrd and Andy Shivley, all of Kingsport, TN; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed very much, but he is at peace and with the Lord. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mr. Jimmy Lewis Shivley will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 8:00pm in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Anthony Gragg officiating. Graveside Services will be held Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Garden of David with military honors to be rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 and members of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
