Marvin (Marv) Platz passed away on Sunday, May 27th at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born April 7, 1936 to Les and Teresa Platz in Olean, NY.
Marv was a graduate of Olean High School, Olean, NY. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division for 6 years. After marrying the love of his life, Eveline Parker “Eckie” in 1958, they made their home in Kingsport where Marv joined the workforce at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. He worked there for 35 years, never missing a day of work. He was among the first to become Senior Technical Assistant in modernizing the manufacturing facilities. He retired as a Senior Foreman in the Manufacturing Division.
Marv was a man of strong character. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a faithful servant to his Lord at Valley of Hope Church in West Carter’s Valley where he taught an adult Sunday school class for many years, served as a Deacon, and spent much of his time working within the church overseeing maintenance needs until he became ill. He loved his church and his church family and so much appreciated the times his church friends visited his bedside to provide comfort and prayer for him. He also enjoyed the phone calls each Sunday morning before their Sunday School class began.
Marv adored his family and loved spending time with them. He was an avid reader of history and current events. When he wasn’t working at the church, he could be found working in his own yard, keeping it neat and well-landscaped.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Will Platz; sister, Marilyn Platz, brothers-in-law G.R. (Nadine) Parker, Paul Parker, sisters-in-law Ruth (Delaney) Young, Roma (Jack) Hann.
Left to honor and cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 59 years, Eveline; two sons of whom he was extremely devoted to and proud of; Greg (Debbie) Platz of Cincinnati, OH and Brian (Josie fiancée) Platz of Kingsport. In addition, he is survived by sister-in-laws, Velma (Marce) Ketron and Isabelle Parker. He is also survived by several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
