She spent her lifetime taking care of her family and helping others. She loved to travel, was an expert seamstress, knitted, crocheted, painted, went to car shows, was a licensed cosmetologist and cosmetology instructor, collected stamps, gardened, and grew flowers. She enjoyed life and was always planning her next adventure.
She was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church where she was very active and attended church her entire life.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and spent time with her. Her knowledge about anything she chose to do is unmeasurable, from her beautiful flower gardens to cooking her favorite meal and spending time with family and friends. She absolutely never met a stranger.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Theodore and Hazel Pippin and her grandson, Jonathan Henry
She is survived by the love of her life John Gott whom she married on July 1, 1961; her children Jackie (Phil) Henry, Ronny Gott, Roger (KC) Gott; her beautiful grandchildren Jaret (Casey) Henry, Logan (Elizabeth) Gott, Dalton Gott and her great - grandchild Cole Henry; her sister Kay (Paul) Chapman. Ruth is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the angel that helped with her care during her recent illness, Sharon Shelton, and to Smokey Mountain Hospice for their help and care, especially Melissa and Whitney. The family also wishes to extend a very special thank you to Robin Wallen and Tim Hodges and all the people of St. Luke Methodist for all the thoughts and prayers and food provided for the family during this time.
As per her wishes, there will be a graveside service on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at East Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at St. Luke Methodist Church with a celebration of her life to follow at 7 pm with Pastor Tim Hodges officiating.
